2013-14 Season

2013-14 Season

August Osage County

By Tracy Letts

This 2008 Pulitzer Prize winner is a dark comedic drama about a dysfunctional Oklahoma family that is exquisitely adept at making each other miserable. When the family patriarch turns up missing the family gathers around the drug addled matriarch. Family secrets and volatile personalities result in situations that are at once laugh-inducing and uncomfortably tense. (Mature audiences due to language and subject matter).

Denton Community Theatre presents “August: Osage County”. Family dysfunction both bites back and oddly soothes those in the Beverly and Violet Weston’s home during an Oklahoma summer. The players reveal their love-hate relationships, but there is comfort in the familiar for this curious clan and the dying, addicted woman at their center, Tuesday, September 17, 2013, in Denton, TX. Went to see Carrie the Musical. Very talented group, and I loved the theatre itself.

We've seen several slows at this theater and have always enjoyed them. The acting has always been good and the sets and costumes are well done. The theater itself is well designed so you won't get a bad seat. I do recommend arriving early as it is tricky to find parking.

I saw Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (CATCF) at Theater Denton on Sunday. What a fun way to spend a couple of hours on a hot summer day. Cool theater off the square. Much of it in its original glory. The over all production was fantastic. The singing, acting and the MUSIC 🎵, all exceeded my expectations. The music was exceptional. Such talented artists. A friend of mine played violin in the performance. She played beautifully. I was actually moved to tears during the show as I was transported back to fond memories of my youth, and to my childhood memories of CATCF. Our seats were perfect for viewing characters across the stage. I didn’t see a bad seat (obstructed) in the house. Parking - Denton can be tricky, especially The Square, and weekends. Come early so you’re not stressing over finding a spot (like I did). They sell snacks and beverages (alcoholic & nonalcoholic) at the concession store. They take cash and credit cards. There’s a cute little WONKA CANDY SHOP spot for photo ops inside the lounge. Candy props and all! Final thought- I expected the theater to be freezing inside. It wasn’t. It was cool enough inside to make me forget about the extreme heat outside. ☺️ This was my first time attending a show at Theater Denton. I’m looking forward to the upcoming shows I’ll see next.

My husband and I enjoyed the production of Jesus Christ SuperStar. Wonderful community production with an extremely talented cast! We also loved the historical theater and the vintage vibe. Free parking was easier to find than we expected!

We love seeing shows at Campus as well as at the Annex at the mall. I would recommend y'all set up a separate Google listing for your mall location with location details for out of towners. Specifically letting them know about the back door entrance & parking. It will go a long way in getting the word out about entertainment options on that side of town if it pops up in google & map searches!
