2011-12 Season

2011-12 Season

The 39 Steps

Adapted by Patrick Barlow

From the novel by John Buchan. From the movie of Alfred Hitchcock. Licensed by ITV Global Entertainment Limited. And an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon.

The show where Hitchcock meets hilarious! A faced paced farce based on the 1935 thriller. Adventure and danger are the key words for hero, Richard Hannay, after a chance encounter with a beautiful spy. He runs from police, and would be assassins while trying to uncover a plot to steal British military secrets. Part of the genius of this piece is that entire story is portrayed with only 4 actors. It will leave you wondering, “How did they do that!?”

Director – Sean Frith

Macbeth

By William Shakespeare

Beware –a lust for power at all costs may cost you everything. Armed with the prophecies of three witches, Macbeth and his wife commit multiple murders to secure Macbeth’s place as king. Paranoia and madness are the true legacy of these horrific crimes and the ultimate price is eventually the death of them both.

Director – Julie Brinker

Christmas Belles

By Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten

Holiday hilarity abounds in this Texas-style comedy when the Futrelle sisters prepare for the small town Christmas program.

Director – Betty Kay Seibt

Laughter on the 23rd Floor

By Neil Simon

Neil Simon looks behind the scenes of a successful comedy and finds more comedy! Based on Simon’s experiences as a young writer, the real wackiness of a 1953 TV comedy show, according to Simon, took place in the writers’ room. As the show’s star battles with network executives about creative content of the show, the quick-witted writers collaborate and kibitz with one another to keep up.

Director – Amy Jackson

Little Women

Book by Allan Knee, lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, and music by Jason Howland.

Louisa May Alcott’s beloved tale set to music – old-fashioned appeal for young and old. While father is away during the Civil War, the four March sisters and their devoted mother, Marmee, endure hardships bravely, and manage to create a happy home where love and laughter brighten the darkest times. Join tom-boy Jo, romantic Meg, sweet Beth, and pretentious Amy for a charmingly good time.

Director – Buster Maloney

All My Sons

By Arthur Miller

A powerful post-WWII drama that still resonates today. Based on a true story, Arthur Miller’s play explores the relationship between a father and son, and the father’s tragic flaw in his quest to fulfill the American Dream. This poignant story also touches on the effect that a fallen soldier has on family and friends.

Encore 5 – GI Jukebox

Join the troops at the Stage Door Canteen as the USO performs the greatest hits
from the 1940’s.

Hairspray

Music by Marc Shaiman, Lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, Book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, based on the 1988 John Waters film Hairspray.

Welcome to the ‘60’s! Baltimore, bouffants, and big time musical fun! Plus-sized teen, Tracy Turnblad, dreams of being on the local dance show, but her size and progressive views on racial integration make her less than popular with upper management. She does make the cut, however, and proves that when your heart is in the right place, You Can’t Stop the Beat!

Went to see Carrie the Musical. Very talented group, and I loved the theatre itself.

We've seen several slows at this theater and have always enjoyed them. The acting has always been good and the sets and costumes are well done. The theater itself is well designed so you won't get a bad seat. I do recommend arriving early as it is tricky to find parking.

I saw Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (CATCF) at Theater Denton on Sunday. What a fun way to spend a couple of hours on a hot summer day. Cool theater off the square. Much of it in its original glory. The over all production was fantastic. The singing, acting and the MUSIC 🎵, all exceeded my expectations. The music was exceptional. Such talented artists. A friend of mine played violin in the performance. She played beautifully. I was actually moved to tears during the show as I was transported back to fond memories of my youth, and to my childhood memories of CATCF. Our seats were perfect for viewing characters across the stage. I didn’t see a bad seat (obstructed) in the house. Parking - Denton can be tricky, especially The Square, and weekends. Come early so you’re not stressing over finding a spot (like I did). They sell snacks and beverages (alcoholic & nonalcoholic) at the concession store. They take cash and credit cards. There’s a cute little WONKA CANDY SHOP spot for photo ops inside the lounge. Candy props and all! Final thought- I expected the theater to be freezing inside. It wasn’t. It was cool enough inside to make me forget about the extreme heat outside. ☺️ This was my first time attending a show at Theater Denton. I’m looking forward to the upcoming shows I’ll see next.

My husband and I enjoyed the production of Jesus Christ SuperStar. Wonderful community production with an extremely talented cast! We also loved the historical theater and the vintage vibe. Free parking was easier to find than we expected!

We love seeing shows at Campus as well as at the Annex at the mall. I would recommend y'all set up a separate Google listing for your mall location with location details for out of towners. Specifically letting them know about the back door entrance & parking. It will go a long way in getting the word out about entertainment options on that side of town if it pops up in google & map searches!
