The Odd Couple (Female Version) Auditions

November 12 @ 7:00 pm

Theatre Denton is holding auditions for The Odd Couple (Female Version) by Neil Simon. Directed by Hayley Harp, auditions will be held Nov. 12, 13 – 7:00pm – 9:00pm at the Theatre Denton Annex inside Golden Triangle Mall (2201 S I35) in Denton, Texas.
If these times do not work for you and your schedule, please feel free to send in a video recording to hayley.e.harp@gmail.com. Call backs, if deemed necessary, will be determined at a later time. For the audition, prepare a monologue of your choosing that you feel best fits the style of the show OR prepare one of the available sides below.
Please fill out the attached audition form – no headshot or resume required. There will be audition forms available at the auditions as well.

Director’s Note:
All shapes, sizes, ages, races, and genders are welcome to audition for
whatever role they see themselves fitting in best. Real life friend groups are diverse and that will be reflected on stage. Since there are holiday breaks in between the casting and the official opening of the show, the majority of work will be individual and on your own with sporadic group rehearsals. Please be prepared to work on your own just as hard as in rehearsals!

Roles available:
Olive Madison (Lead) – Olive is a successful television producer. She is intelligent, attractive and wisecracking, with a good sense of humor – and she’s a complete slob when it comes to her surroundings. She has an encyclopedic understanding of sports, is a complete pushover for her ex-husband, and a good friend.
Florence Unger (Lead) – Florence is attractive, very well groomed, neat and has just broken up with her husband. She takes herself very seriously, likes to clean, decorate and cook and is very good at all three. Flo is also intelligent, warm-hearted (in her own way), and has no sense of humor (at least about herself) – she does NOT make jokes. She can also, without meaning to, make Olive feel guilty.
Mickey (Supporting) – A straight-shooting and down-to-earth police officer who feels she has a good understanding of people. Sometimes, takes the “police bit” too far and tries  to be in control of all situations.
Sylvie (Supporting) – a hopeful, soon-to-be ex-smoker, that can easily get irritated with her friends, but has a good sense of humor, especially about her husband.
Renee (Supporting) – A plain-spoken gal, especially when she points out Olive’s failings as a hostess, and then Flo’s. Sylvie’s best friend. She is single and dating a doctor.
Vera (Supporting) – A very sweet, very nice, somewhat spacey, and, although quite smart, is often a step or two behind her friends. She’s very funny but doesn’t realize it. She is married to Harry.
Manalo Costazuela (Supporting) – A suave and Spanish-speaking classic dream date that showers both Olive and Flo with attention. He is in-touch with his sensitive side and appreciates Florence’s sensitivities.
Jesus Costazuela (Supporting) – Manolo’s younger brother, who is everything Manalo is, only younger. He truly appreciates Florence.

About the show:
Madison and Unger are back: just as Olive and Florence, respectively, this time. Neil Simon’s revision of The Odd Couple takes the classic characters you may have seen on the stage or screen and gives them a feminine touch in The Odd Couple (Female Version). This show takes place in Olive’s messy apartment and opens with a weeklygame night, but it is soon to be interrupted as Florence shows up in disarray following her husband’s proposal…to separate. As any good friend would, Olive opens her arms and home to Florence while she tries to get back on her feet. However, Olive is very unconcerned with the state of her apartment or the world for that matter while Florence has only ever known to keep up appearances. Their Type A and Type B personalities are truly put to the test on a double date Olive organizes.
Performances are Jan. 19, 20, 26, 27 at 7:30pm and Jan. 21, 28 at 2:00pm on the Phil Gallivan Stage at the Theatre Denton Annex.
