Matilda

August 6, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Based on the popular childrens’ book by Roald Dahl, Matilda the Musical is a fantastical journey that follows one extraordinary little girl as she impresses her teacher, befriends her classmates, outsmarts her headmistress, and finally stands up to her unloving parents and proves her worth.

Matilda Wormwood is incredibly clever for her age – perhaps too clever. Her television-obsessed parents are always yelling at her to stop reading those books of hers, and her father even refuses to acknowledge that she’s a girl instead of the boy he wanted, so she spends her time at the local library regaling the librarian with fascinating stories that seem to come from out of nowhere. But things begin to change when it’s time for her to enroll in school, and she meets Miss Honey, a kind and supportive teacher that recognizes how special Matilda is. It’s only with their backs against the wall under the thumb of the dreaded headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, that Matilda realizes she has a particular gift that no one else seems to have. When she discovers that the story she’s been telling to the librarian is much more than just a story, she concludes that the dark secret at the heart of it might actually be the key to saving everyone from the torturous clutches of The Trunchbull.

People of all ages will connect with this heartwarming musical, so it’s a perfect night out for the whole family. Millennials especially, though, will enjoy the nostalgic trip down memory lane as they recall the beloved movie from their childhood. From the same generation, director Kristen Ray brings her own passion for the story in a way that both honors Matilda’s history while still keeping it fresh and relevant. A stellar cast and crew rounds out the experience for what will be a memorable evening.

Performances are August 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 20, 21 at 7:30 pm & August 8, 15, 22 at 2 pm in the PointBank Auditorium at the Campus Theatre, 214 W. Hickory, Denton.
