All genders and ethnicities are encouraged to read for any part they would like.

Roles available are:

Maggie – 22-35 Maggie’s loneliness and Brick’s refusal to make her his desire, has made her hard, nervous, and desperate for his affection. Having grown up poor and hoping to secure her place in the family, there is a certain desperate quality to Maggie. Despite this, her love for Brick is evident and she holds the audience transfixed with her charm and appeal. She is beautiful in her longing.

Brick- 22-35 (The favorite son. He is haunted. Brick embodies an almost archetypal masculinity, having been a football star prior to an injury that leads him to become an announcer. Brick continues to mourn the loss of his friend, Skipper, and grapples with his feelings for his lost friend. Brick is aware of the lies within his family and he has to ultimately decide if he will continue to live a lie or to tell the truth.

Big Daddy- 50-75 (Brick’s father. He is a large, brash, and vulgar millionaire who believes death can not touch him. He is, unknowingly ill. (Or perhaps he is in denial) The family has hidden his cancer diagnosis from him. He can be cruel but has a softness for Brick.

Big Mama – 50-75 Brick’s mother. Earnest, dramatic, crude, and bedecked in flashy gems, Mama is a woman embarrassingly dedicated to a man who despises her and in feeble denial of her husband’s disgust. She adores Brick.

Mae- 30-40 A mean, agitated “monster of fertility”. A puppeteer of sorts, she schemes with her husband Gooper to secure Big Daddy’s estate. She is manipulative and sees Maggie and Brick as competitors.

Gooper- 30-40 A successful corporate lawyer. Gooper is Daddy’s eldest and least favored son. He deeply resents his parents’ love for Brick, viciously relishes in Daddy’s illness, and rather ruthlessly plots to secure control of the estate.

Reverend Tooker – 35-60 A tactless, opportunistic, and hypocritical guest at Big Daddy’s birthday party. His role is to embody the lie of conventional morality.

Doctor Baugh – 35-60 Big Daddy’s physician. He provides Big Daddy’s diagnosis to Big Mama and the family.

Help – 18-40’s, ANY GENDER (The staff/help for Big Daddy’s estate.)

Children – 8-12 Looking for two girls and one boy. Acting as Mae and Gooper’s children, the children are boisterous and are not well behaved. Described as “no neck monsters”. Many lines are delivered from offstage and children will working under a limited rehearsal schedule.
