Audition – Steel Magnolias

Denton Community Theatre is holding auditions for Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling. Directed by Nancy Hendrex-Chumbley, auditions will be held July 14-15 at 7 PM at the Campus Theatre located at 214 West Hickory in Denton, Texas.
The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Spanning three years, the staff and customers engage in small- town gossip, but we see a deep strength and purposefulness emerge when the sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, which gives the play and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny, and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.
Auditions are open and no appointments are necessary. Resumes and head shots are appreciated, but not mandatory. Auditions will consist of duet and group cold readings.
Roles are:
Truvy Jones—40ish. Owner of the beauty shop.
Annelle Dupuy-Desoto—19. Beauty shop assistant.
Clairee Belcher—66ish. Widow of former mayor. Grande dame.
Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie—25. Prettiest girl in town.
M’Lynn Eatenton—50ish. Shelby’s Mother. Socially promiment career woman.
Ouiser Boudreaux—66ish. Wealthy curmudgeon. Acerbic but loveable.
Performances are Sept. 12-14 and 19-21 at 7:30pm and Sept. 15 and 22 at 2:00pm at the Campus Theatre.
