The Importance of Being Earnest

By Oscar Wilde

A classic comedic farce set in late Victorian England. When Jack, also known as Ernest,
reveals his double life to his aristocratic best friend, Algernon, Algernon reveals his
similar duplicity to avoid social obligations. Add in the young ladies that the young men
wish to marry, their chaperones and the foibles and hypocrisy of society it all adds up to
Oscar Wilde’s most enduringly popular play.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood

By Rupert Holmes

The story was inspired by Charles Dickens’ last (and unfinished) novel and employs the
device of a “show-within- a-show” The cast members of Drood do not specifically play
Dickens’s characters, but rather music hall performers who are performing as Dickens’s
characters. This device allowed for a great deal of light comedy that was not originally
found in Dickens’s novel. The Chairman, a kind of Master of Ceremonies, begins by
informing attendees that this is going to be an unusual production and the play within a
play commences. The final twist is that the each audience votes on the ending, so theatre
goers never know how the evening will turn out.

Black Box Shows 2010-2011

All In The Timing

By David Ives

For DCT’s inaugural production at the POINTBank Black Box Theatre Bill Kirkley suggested
David Ives’ All in the Timing which features six short plays. Six Plays…Six Directors…Six
Visions…Six Casts…One Playwright…equals a singularly exceptional show! Although Kirkley
headed up the project and directed The Philadelphia (one of the six plays), he shared the fun by
recruiting directors for the remaining five pieces within the work. Additional directors on this
project included DCT veterans Bonnie McCormick directing Sure Thing; Dennis Welch
directing Variations on the Death of Trotsky , Kenny Fudge directing The Universal Language;
Polly Maynard directing Philip Glass Buys A Loaf Of Bread; along with newcomers Bob White
and Jerri Hall directing Words, Words, Words.

The Lady of Larkspur Lotion, directed by Dennis Welch, is a lighter offering that takes a look at the lives of three people in a cockroach-infested boarding house in the French Quarter.
Talk To Me Like The Rain And Let Me Listen, directed by Pat Watson is an intense work featuring a young man and young woman who speak eloquently about their desperation.
